White Giraffe Clinic FAQs
Are weight management medications available on the NHS?
Some prescription medications for weight management are available on the NHS. Access is currently prioritised for patients with very specific clinical needs, meaning many patients experience long waits or strict eligibility criteria. Private doctor-led care provides faster access for those who are clinically suitable.
How do I know if these medicines could be suitable for me?
You will complete a health questionnaire and have a consultation with Dr Nisa. The guidelines generally suggest that these medicines are targeted at individuals with a BMI of more than 28-30. Suitability depends on medical history, current health, and clinical guidelines. Your doctor will discuss whether a particular treatment is appropriate for you. If there is any reason you cannot have the medicines we will inform you.
How much weight do users typically lose?
Clinical studies indicate that many patients experience steady month-by-month weight loss when treatment is used alongside healthy dietary and lifestyle changes. Weight-loss outcomes vary between individuals. Dr Nisa will provide personalised guidance based on your individual progress.
Are results guaranteed?
No, as individual results will vary. As with all medical treatments, outcomes depend on individual biology, adherence, and lifestyle. We provide the tools and personalised support to maximise your success. The results will largely be a function of the calorie deficit you are able to manage through a lower appetite thanks to the medication.
Do you offer consultations in person?
We only offer online video consultations as this is the most efficient for all - and this medium achieves all the objectives needed for a successful discussion.
How long is a typical treatment?
This varies from person to person but typically many patients use treatment from 6 months to 2 years. Some clients may wish to continue long term much in the same way that they would continue their blood pressure or diabetes medicine long term. We initially start with 4 weeks to assess response and suitability.
Can weight return after stopping treatment?
Yes it can. Weight management depends on maintaining a balance between calorie intake and calorie expenditure. However most clients find the rapid and significant weight loss through prescription medications life changing and often do manage to maintain a healthier weight.
What are the side effects and how typical are these?
These medications are well-researched and long-term data suggests that they are safe for the majority of users. The most common side effect is nausea. Your GP will discuss potential side effects and how to manage them.
How does your service compare with other online pharmacies?
Our service focuses on ongoing medical supervision with a fully qualified doctor to keep an eye on how things are going. We provide consultations, monitoring, and personalised advice, rather than only dispensing medication.
Do you do consultations for people internationally?
At the moment we only do consultations for people in the UK. We may expand to other countries in the future.
Why dont you mention the names of medicines like other clinics do?
As a regulated entity we seek to strictly follow all rules and guidance. There are many examples of other clinics who the ASA have deemed were advertising prescription only medicines, which is against the rules.
